Migrants on a temporary visa may not legally work in New Zealand as they face deportation, regardless of what visa they may have. This includes people on working holiday, student, and working visas. People on these visas may work in any other occupation, but not do sex work. This means migrants who do sex work are not ptorected by the Prostitution Reform Act, an exclusion that leaves them vulnerable to exploitation and violence.
